the house my dad and I built
For years this was a piece of land we couldn’t afford to do anything with, and I kept telling my dad the same thing: have faith, Papa, one day we’ll build this. Shraddha means faith. So that’s what we called it.
It’s one bedroom, one bed, and room for two of you and nobody else, which is deliberate. You will not hear another guest for as long as you’re here.
Outside is mabati, the same iron sheet you’ll see on half the buildings in this country. We chose it on purpose; everything we had went into what’s behind it. Around it are farms, trees, and a garden most people end up sitting in until well after dark.

Ten minutes past Karen, and the city stops.
Most people drive past the turning at least once, which is part of it. By the time you’ve found us, you’ve already left Nairobi behind a bit.
We’re about ten minutes from The Hub, surrounded by farms and open air. The house sits high on the land, so the deck hangs out over the garden and you look straight into trees.
In the evening the festoons come on, the lanterns light the path, and the whole place turns into the thing you saw in the photos.

A small house that doesn’t feel small, because the windows are enormous and every one of them is pointed at trees. Wooden floors, a proper bed, an indoor fireplace for the cold nights, and a deck that does most of the work.
Highlights of Your Stay:
- 1. The bonfire, lit for you at sunset. A guest once wrote that it “is everything”, and she was right.
- 2. The suspended deck, where you’ll eat, read, and stay out much later than you meant to.
- 3. The indoor fireplace, for when Karen turns cold after dark. It always does.
- 4. The garden and the zen garden, and the fact that there is nobody else in either of them.
Stay in. Let the fire go. That’s the part people write to us about months later.

This place is really beautiful and located in a perfect nook within nature. It is just enough for 2 people if you have the chance in the evening definitely take advantage of the bonfire. It is everything. The house design and interior decor is really intentional and well thought out. Only thing I will say is that when all the doors are shut and it’s time to sleep it can get a little stuffy because it’s a small space and the windows don’t open but we found it okay to sleep with the French doors a little open. All the same, the host is really responsive and super helpful. Felix who is available on the grounds is also great and helpful incase you have any questions or need support. It was honestly a lovely stay in a quaint little cabin. I would definitely stay here again.
Rajvir’s place is peaceful and set in a quiet estate. It looks and feels like the pictures and description. It has very comfortable interior and exterior space. Accurate to the description. I would enjoy coming back. I have no issue recommending this to others.
Shraddha House was just what we needed for our stay. Rajvir was very responsive, the house is in a great location and has everything you need! The caretaker - Nixon - is a wonderful chap. Would definitely stay again.
This place is an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Nairobi City. It is beautiful and peaceful. Perfect for a quiet getaway. The gardens surrounding the house are beautiful and the Zen garden is wonderful. Inside, the space is perfect for cozy nights by the fire place reading or enjoying conversations. Highly recommend!
